20 Years of Vibe

20 Years of Vibe

In the winter of 1994 Vibe Promotions came to Brick Lane with a vision. Having put on Acid House Parties around the world and run events up and down the UK as well as managing artists – they were looking to find a place to create something special.

Vibe partnered with Ofer Zeloof and set about bringing together a whole troop of talented creative people who wanted to make a difference – through their work, passion and contribution to the world.

What a journey it has been.

We were often told in the early days by many in the industry that “no one is going to go to Brick Lane…”. Soho dominated events and Camden and Notting Hill were destinations…but the east was simply “unviable”. We shared our dreams and so many others got involved and made their dreams become a part of a much bigger aspiration.

The rest, as they say is history…

There are so many people we love and want to thank: but this is not goodbye. Indeed, it is a logical progression for who we are, what we believe in and what we think about experimentation, art, music, love and life.

Two decades is quite some achievement in a world where venues and promoters come and go. It has been so exciting to work with such an array of talent and passionate enthusiasts. So many highlights but to name a few:

There of course are so very many more. We thank you all – and of course most importantly all of YOU. The public – the people, our friends that have over the years come and danced, listened, partied, met & married, split up, made up, created, innovated and generally made this part of London such a magical experiment and possibility.

You may well see some press about recent issues in Brick Lane, & Tower Hamlets licensing. Indeed, we think that there has been an overly narrow minded and petty attitude of licensing and police that have imposed a curfew on anything beyond 1am – preventing later night temporary extensions (TEN’s) for bars, clubs and even restaurants! This ultimately affects all of you, the public.

London is supposed to be an international city. Too many restrictions on what venues can do – and how they need to run and often provide policing services – are detrimental to UK business, creativity and recreation. There is a London-wide group of venue owners, restauranteurs and members of the public who are putting a statement together about UK night time economy and restrictions. If you do want to find out more, you can email alanvibe@aol.com

We do not, however, have any time for bitterness. Music & events have proven to be a catalyst for creativity in the whole post war period. From Carnaby Street in the Swinging Sixties, Kings Road in the Seventies, Camden in the Eighties and Brick Lane in the Nineties and Noughties…night time activity, brings together talent and youth from the worlds of fashion, art, business and technology all of course merging with the thing that touches our souls…music.

So – let the music play.

In these next few weeks, we invite you to come along and enjoy that unique and hybrid special experience that can only come about from the special blend of us all together.

Please come and join us to celebrate our 20th Anniversary Birthday weekend from Friday 7 Nov through to and including Monday 10th November –

Friday 7 : Vibe Residents with special twist

Sat 8 : Spread Love, DJ’s Matt ‘Jam’ Lamont, DJ Spoony, Norris Windross

Sun 9 : All day DJ event

Mon 10: Open Mic final showcase of young talent

Our aim has always to be a place for new up and coming talent. Fresh and young blood. New ways of trying out and doing things. When you walk in to The Vibe Bar, anything has been possible.

We are going to keep dreaming. Keep creating. Keep on moving on. We shall keep you all posted with any new plans. Thank you for making this journey so incredibly amazing. We love you.

She trained in Italy as a fine artist, but discovered muralism in Mexico and has made this art her signature for the last ten years. To deepen her vision as an artist and inspire people through her live murals she travelled exploring the jungle of South and Central America, living and working with indigenous communities. They initiated her into the mysteries of their mystical traditions and this has had a great impact on her life, proving to be a major inspiration for her art.
Still traveling South America in 2011, Maggio founded the Imaginary Beings art collective in Buenos Aires and it has since toured major museums of the Argentinian Capital. She then took The Imaginary Beings collective, which creates premium art events around the world, to New York, Lisbon, Milan and back to London where she is now based.

Maggio is also a musician and performer and has collaborated with London’s Starfield Studios, composing and touring in UK throughout 2013. She also collaborated with former Massive Attack’s singer Shara Nelson who supported many of Maggio’s art exhibitions.

Maggio has also created her own fashion label, VISIONS, a wearable art brand based on the concept of turning art performances’ garments into fashion accessories with a history.

Maggio travels now in between UK and USA, exhibiting her artworks, performing, producing new designs and creating live art events to inspire the world.

Vibe Round-Up

Another amazing week at Vibe Bar on Brick Lane this past week

Cobra.1

We had the most glorious weather meaning the famous Vibe Bar courtyard was put to maximum use from Sunday to Sunday- with the kind of atmosphere we have become known for these days. What with our outdoor bar serving Pimms, Coffee and freshly made juice there is something for everyone.

Acoustic Live last Wednesday really took the talent up a notch and we saw some seriously incredible talent hit the stage, with performers such as Naomi Scott! Our social media went beserk with interest as the list of people performing become more and more talked about in the Twittersphere! Don’t forget to get involved with our Twitter convo’s – @VibeBar

Sun, Fashion and Vibe Bar – the three go so well together- we threw a big party this weekend which was sponsored by Cobra! Nothing Without Attitude threw a huge party on Saturday night with not only Nok Nok Denim’s creator Angel DJ-ing a fantastic set but celebrity stylist Alexis Knox took to the decks for not one but TWO sets- keeping the dance floor absolutely pumped.

We followed up with a chilled Sunday with brands such as Bambi and Manson (as seen on the likes of Kendall and Kylie Jenner) London Loves L.A – (who has even been worn by Mr Styles himself to name but one celeb fan) The cute SkinnieBelle, My Flash Trash and Absolute Vintage popping up all over the courtyard giving a fantastic eclectic fashion feel to the day.

We threw in a Photo-Booth and free candy-floss for good measure. The courtyard was filled with a great crowd including MTV presenter Laura Whitmore who we spotted trying on garments from the various brands and making the most of the Photo-Booth

cobra.3

We even laid on a silent disco so while ppl were sipping their Pimms they could flick between the two DJ’s who were at war on the decks! La Shark played an awesome set and Mem from Shorebitch finished off the night with the best of the nineties and noughties.  All in all a great & different weekend filled with a lovely crowd

The Vibes from the last 6 months!

2014 so far….

It’s been a crazy six months at Vibe Bar so much has been going on, including our new swanky website- in honor of this we thought we’d give you a round up of all the other awesome things that have happened over over the last 6 months…

We ended 2013 with This Feeling and a top way to say hello to the New Year with a completely packed out venue and Carl Barat performing in our newly refurbished Pavilion – the room was buzzing with Carl performing not only his own material but also some classic Libertine’s tracks

Screen Shot 2014-07-13 at 15.12.01

In an attempt to beat the January blues we launched the brand new Cocktail menu leaving us with a sticky bar and a fuzzy head- but it seemed to work and January only got better.  We started focusing on live events and sessions in the Pavilion linking up with Gigwise for exclusive acoustic sessions from the likes of Oh Boy!  & The Orwells (April) and a regular selection of bands with Symptomatic throughout the week.

orwells

Throughout February and March we welcomed in some amazing new promoters bringing a mixture of disco-infused, rare groove, funk, Hip Hop and R n B vibes with NWA, Get Down Sounds, London Disco Society as well as our now legendary Monday evening Open Mic night with the best and brightest of new up and coming UK talent and of course our regular promoters continued to provide some absolute bangers every weekend.

As the sun came out  in April everyone cheered and the Vibe courtyard has been a firm favourite – we had yummy Street Food Pop stalls throughout the winter keeping us satisfied, with Mamas Jerk Chicken, Bish Bash Bangers, Sudanese Falafel’s, Hog Roasts and Burgers. Basically the courtyard is one of London’s great outdoor entertainment pleasures filled with the buzz of after work, girls looking for a delicious cocktail, tourists exploring Brick Lane  and more.

Indeed, the Bank Holidays have proven especially fun, hosting “Someday” with a host of DJ including The Krank Brothers and DJ Joey Negro performing for a festival type vibe to host the launch of Kopparberg’s latest contribution – getting covered in all the national news..

 Courtyard

May was soon here and we introduced a host of brand new food pop-ups, including Grill My Cheese and Great Balls of Fire. Then came our summer resident Viet Vibe providing a modern twist on traditional good quality Vietnamese food at amazing prices! Along with Viet Vibe we’ve also seen resident food pop-ups Mamma’s Jerk Chicken and Bish Bash Bangers serve up some seriously good eats! Basically what we’re saying is…hungry? We’ve got it all!

Untitled-1

May also saw Graduate Fashion Week hit Brick Lane and where else to throw the official after-party…but of course The Vibe Bar. The fashionista’s and flourishing designers of the future descended onto Brick Lane and partied hard with us to celebrate the end of their studies and the start of what’s to come! It was a seriously well dressed affair and we even had fashion student Nicole Gray hitting us with a ‘takeover’ for the duration!

Throughout June we launched our amazing fresh fruit bar- giving an extra health kick to everyone- with flavours like mint, cucumber and apple! Yup… a whole glass full of vitamins.

VIBE-Juice-bar-poster-WEB

Of course The World Cup began- so we got out our big screens, struck up the BBQ and got seriously ‘footbally’ seeing hundreds of you through the doors from all over the world to come and support your teams. An amazing atmosphere and an eclectic crowd meant that it was our best World Cup yet (forget about the England games!)

Here we are now in July with a whole host of events lined up including the infamous Brick Lane Festival, Nothing Without Attitude, Pop-Up Fashion and more. Only just this weekend we had an incredible inspiring event hosted by Girl Effect which ran from 2pm until 8pm with a whole host of fun things- including WAH Nails and Tatty Devine. They followed the day by heading over to the Village Underground where Jessie J played an amazing set!

During this six months we’ve moved away towards a more contemporary sound of the East End paying homage to the origins of house music by rediscovering our love for funk, soul and disco- so enjoy our new journey into an amazing genre!

We have gone back to our roots therefore by ensuring we combine Art, Fashion, Design with fantastic Music and Entertainment. Anna Laurini hosted her show with Saatchi Gallery in Pavilion and very kindly produced her GIRL and BOY portraits for the Vibe Bar wall

Stay tuned to our blog each week to find out what’s on and what we’ve been up to! Make sure you stay in touch by tweeting and sending in your pictures when you come and visit too! There’s still a few months left of summer and we intend on using them well! Here’s a link to the what’s going in during the last few days of July: http://www.vibe-bar.co.uk/events/july/

Don’t forget that if you want to book a table with us for ten people or more to celebrate…a birthday… a new job… or even quitting a job! We’ll give you guys free entry and a bottle of Prosecco to boot! We love having you and want to make your celebration as memorable as possible!
